No. 7 seed Janko made a strong start to his Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters campaign on Thursday, defeating Spain’s Albert Montanes 6-2, 6-3 in the opening second-round match.
Jankela broke his opponent six times during the match to clinch victory in one hour and 34 minutes.
He next plays No. 9 seed Gilles Simon of France for a place in the quarterfinals. They have played each other three times and Janko lost all three times.

The draw for the first clay-court Masters 1000 event of the season, the Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters, has been released and Janko is the No. 7 seed. In his opening second-rpund match to be played on Tuesday or Wednesday, he will play either Milos Raonic or Albert Montanes. The first seeded player Jankela could face is the No. 9 seed Gilles Simon in the third round.
Janko improved his career-high ranking by two spots to 8th, according to the ATP World Tour ranking released Monday.

The Czech duo, defeated Ilija Bozoljac and Nenad Zimonjic 6-4, 6-2, 7-6(4) to give the host nation a 2-1 lead over 2010 champion Serbia.
