Janko Into Monte-Carlo 3rd RD

NewsNo. 7 seed Janko made a strong start to his Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters campaign on Thursday, defeating Spain’s Albert Montanes 6-2, 6-3 in the opening second-round match.

Jankela broke his opponent six times during the match to clinch victory in one hour and 34 minutes.

He next plays No. 9 seed Gilles Simon of France for a place in the quarterfinals. They have played each other three times and Janko lost all three times.

Monte-Carlo Draw Released

NewsThe draw for the first clay-court Masters 1000 event of the season, the Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters, has been released and Janko is the No. 7 seed. In his opening second-rpund match to be played on Tuesday or Wednesday, he will play either Milos Raonic or Albert Montanes. The first seeded player Jankela could face is the No. 9 seed Gilles Simon in the third round.

Janko has played this event three times before and his best performance was reaching the third round in 2008. Last year, he lost in the first round to Feliciano Lopez.

Janko Moves to Career-High No. 8

NewsJanko improved his career-high ranking by two spots to 8th, according to the ATP World Tour ranking released Monday.

Last November, Tipsy cracked the Top 10 for the first time.

The top seven players remained unchanged this week, led by Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer.

Davis Cup: Serbia 1-4 Czech Rep

NewsWorld No. 7 Tomas Berdych led the Czech Republic into theDavis Cup semi-finals after winning his third match of the weekend on Sunday. Having won in singles on Friday and teamed with Radek Stepanek for victory on Saturday, the 26 year old gave his team an unassailable 3-1 lead by edging Janko Tipsarevic 7-6(6), 7-6(6), 7-6(7).

Berdych improved to a 33-12 overall Davis Cup record as he held his nerve to close out the decisive victory in three hours and 45 minutes. Each player broke serve four times, but it was Berdych who had the edge in the tie-breaks. Two days earlier, Tipsarevic had saved three match points to beat Stepanek and give the visiting Serbian team a foothold in the tie. read more…

Davis Cup: Serbia 1-2 Czech Rep

NewsRadek Stepanek endured a five-hour, seven-minute defeat to Janko Tipsarevic on the opening day’s play in Prague, but demonstrated the depths of his endurance to return Saturday and partner Tomas Berdych to a crucial victory in the doubles rubber. The Czech duo, defeated Ilija Bozoljac and Nenad Zimonjic 6-4, 6-2, 7-6(4) to give the host nation a 2-1 lead over 2010 champion Serbia.

Berdych and Stepanek have now won five Davis Cup rubbers together in a row. read more…
