Janko Sets Up Djokovic Clash in Madrid

NewsNo. 7 seed Janko beat Gilles Simon 7-6(3), 5-7, 6-1 in the third round of the Mutua Madrid Open on Thursday night to set up a quarter-final clash with world No. 1 and fellow Serbian Novak Djokovic. The match lasted two hours and 39 minutes.

After both players held serve without facing a single break point in the opening set, Janko raced to a 4-0 lead in the tie-break. Simon fought back with three straight points, but then committed two errors and double-faulted to gift Jankela the set. read more…

Madrid: Janko Made to Work; Into 3rd RD

NewsNo. 7 seed Janko booked his place in the third round of the Mutua Madrid Open after a hard-fought victory over qualifier Federico Delbonis of Argentina. The match lasted two hours and 36 minutes.

Delbonis, currently ranked 131st in the world, took the initiative first in the opening set when he converted the first break point of the match to snatch a break of serve from Janko. However, Tipsy rebroke immediately to force the tie-break, which went his way. He took it 7-5. read more…

Q. What’s your first tennis memory as a child?
A. Going to my practices as a 7-year-old, in my primary school, being the best in the class in bouncing the ball on my racquet.

Q. What is the best thing about being a tennis player that helps young players achieve their potential and goals?

Janko Loses to Nadal in Barcelona QFs

No. 5 seed Janko lost 6-2, 6-2 to top seed Rafael Nadal in the quarter-finals of the Barcelona Open on Friday. The match lasted one hour and 24 minutes.

The match started on a strong note for Nadal. The Spaniard set the tone by breaking Tipsy in his first two service games to race to a 4-0 lead and going on to take the set 6-2. The two exchanged breaks at the start of the second set, but Nadal secured two more breaks later before sealing the match.

”In the first set I was playing really well, and then at the start of the second he attacked more while I left my shots short,” Nadal said. ”But I am satisfied with the match. I am in the semifinals again. Tomorrow I will have to play at my highest level.”

Barcelona: Janko to Face Nadal in QFs

NewsNo. 5 seed Janko enjoyed a comfortable passage through his third-round match at the Barcelona Open with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Portugal’s Frederico Gil. The match lasted one hour and 10 minutes.

Janko dominated the match with strong serving, winning 82 percent of points behind his first delivery. As a result, he never lost serve during the match as he was feeling more and more confident with every game he played.
