Rome: Janko/Kubot Reach Doubles QFs
Janko and doubles partner Lukasz Kubot of Poland secured their place in the quarter-finals of the Internazionali BNL d’Italia in Rome. In the third-round match they beat No. 5 seeds Leander Paes and Radek Stepanek 6-2, 7-5. The match lasted one hour and 28 minutes.
Janko and Lukasz are playing just their second tournament together, following a quarter-final showing in Miami two months ago.
They will next face the Bryan brothers.

In all four attempts at the Internazionali BNL d’Italia in Rome, Janko has never advanced past the second round, and things were no different this time. Tipsy has again failed to get beyond the second round when he suffered a second-round exit after losing 6-3, 6-1 to Stanislas Wawrinka on Wednesday. The match lasted 73 minutes.
The draw for the Internazionali BNL d’Italia, an ATP World Tour 1000 tournament, has been released and Janko is No. 8 seed and receives a bye in the first round. In the second round to be played on Tuesday or Wednesday, he will play the winner of Wawrinka-Haase match. The first seeded player Tipsy can meet is No. 9 seed John Isner in the third round.
Roger Federer advanced to the Mutua Madrid Open final, beating Janko 6-2, 6-3 in the semi-finals on Saturday. The match lasted 68 minutes.
World No. 1 and defending champion Novak Djokovic followed Rafael Nadal out of the Mutua Madrid Open when he was beaten by good friend and fellow Belgrade native Janko 7-6(2), 6-3 in the quarter-finals on Friday. The match, which was Djokovic’s fourth loss of 2012, lasted one hour and 44 minutes. Tipsy is now 2-4 lifetime against Djokovic.
